Unlimited Don't Wordle - the free reverse word game where you must not guess the hidden word
You're trapped!
The only word you can still play is the hidden answer.
You can't survive this
Past undos (0)
Boss walking over? Hit Esc twice. Go on, try it.
Fine, show me some hints
If you want to survive
- Open with J, Q, X or Z. Fewer clues revealed means fewer handcuffs later.
- Repeat a letter on purpose. Wasting a slot is the whole strategy.
Things this game does
- Every green letter is locked to that spot for every guess after it.
- Every yellow letter you are forced to keep using. That is the trap closing.
- The safe-word counter is the real scoreboard. Watch it fall.
If you want to lose
- Play a sensible word. Sensible words are how people die here.
- Spend your undos early, on mild discomfort. Keep none for the real trap.
Today's riddle
Come back in a moment - this one loads with the page.
Answer goes up tomorrow. No cheating, it's in the source and I'll know. From Conundrums, Riddles and Puzzles, Penn Publishing Company, around 1900. Public domain, via Project Gutenberg. A new one every day, and 397 of them before it starts repeating.
Send the exact word to a friend
Finish an unlimited round and you get a challenge link. Whoever opens it plays the same hidden word you just played. Not a similar one. The same one.
That matters more than it sounds. "I survived it with two undos left" is a claim. A link is a dare. There's a four-person thread running in my work chat and it has cost us at least two meetings.
The once-a-day version can't do this, and it isn't something they forgot to build. Everyone there gets the same word on the same day, so there's nothing to send and nothing to race. That's the entire reason this bit exists.
- Head to head, same word - the only honest way to compare two players.
- No account, no app - the link is the whole thing, and it works on any phone.
- Keep playing until you find a nasty one, then send that one.
Play a round up there, then hit Challenge a friend on the result screen.
What is Don't Guess? (unlimited Don't Wordle)
It's a free, unlimited Don't Wordle: the classic word game with the goal turned round. There's a hidden five-letter word. You have to enter six valid five-letter words. If any one of them is the hidden word, you lose on the spot. Miss all six and you win.
Sounds easy. It isn't, because you can't just type nonsense. Every clue the board gives you turns into a rule you're then stuck with:
So your options shrink with every guess. The safe-word counter drops, the rules pile up, and the board quietly steers you toward the one word you're trying not to type. Get cornered with nothing legal left except the answer and you're trapped, unless you spend an undo. It's half word puzzle, half escape room, and guesses five and six are genuinely stressful.
Want a streak instead? Daily challenge is one shared word per calendar day. Unlimited never runs out. The full rules and strategy guide are worth ten minutes if you keep getting trapped.
Prefer the normal direction, where you're actually trying to find the word? That's my other game: Don't Just Guess, with boards from three to seven letters.
Questions people actually ask
Is there an unlimited Don't Wordle?
This is one. Unlimited mode deals a new secret word every round, forever, free. No once-a-day limit and no cooldown. There's also a shared Daily challenge if you'd rather have one puzzle a day and a streak to protect.
Can I play Don't Wordle more than once a day?
Not on the original - dontwordle.com gives you one puzzle per day and then you're done. That's why I built this. Play as many reverse rounds here as you want, with no account and nothing to install.
How do you play Don't Wordle?
It's Wordle backwards. A hidden five-letter word gets picked, you enter six valid words, and you have to obey every clue as you go - keep the letters you've confirmed, avoid the ones that are banned - while trying not to land on the hidden word. Survive all six guesses and you win.
What does the safe-word counter mean?
It's how many dictionary words you could still legally play that aren't the answer. Watch it fall. When it reaches zero the only legal word left is the answer itself, which means you're trapped and you either spend an undo or accept your fate.
What are undos?
Five per round. An undo takes back your last guess and every rule it created, and the word you took back stays listed under the keyboard so you don't accidentally play it again. Escaping a real trap usually costs one, so don't burn them early.
Is Don't Guess the same as Don't Wordle?
No. This is an independent game in the same avoid-the-hidden-word genre as Don't Wordle (dontwordle.com), and it isn't affiliated with them, or with Wordle, or with The New York Times. What it adds is no daily limit, challenge links, undo history, achievements and a word journal. Here's the full comparison.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Free, no account, no install. Stats, streaks and settings are saved on your own device and never leave it. There are a couple of ads, and that's the whole business model.
