Why people search for "Don't Wordle unlimited"

Don't Wordle deserves its cult following: it flipped the daily word-game formula into a nail-biting survival puzzle where the clues work against you. But it has the same catch as every daily puzzle - one round per day. If you get trapped in thirty seconds (it happens to everyone), that's it until tomorrow.

Don't Guess exists for exactly that moment. It's an independent implementation of the same genre, built from scratch with open-license dictionaries, that lets you hit New game as many times as you want. When one round ends, the next secret word is a click away.

Why the reverse game needs its own strategy

The mistake almost every new player makes is bringing Wordle habits to a game that punishes them. In the classic game you open with the most common letters, because a green or yellow tile is information you want. Here, information costs you: every letter you match drags you closer to the word you are trying to avoid.

We measured all 866 answers in our list to see how badly that instinct backfires. Scoring a word by the combined risk of its distinct letters - the chance each one appears in the hidden answer - produces this:

Opening wordRisk scoreWhy
ALERT191%The best opener on a classic board. The worst thing you can type here.
ARISE186%Same problem: five of the most common letters in English
SLATE177%Wordle's famous opener, and a disaster in reverse
YUMMY42%Repeated letters test fewer distinct possibilities - here that is a feature
PUPPY41%P appears in only 11.5% of answers
FUZZY39%Z appears in 0.9% of answers. Roughly five times safer than ALERT.

The underlying reason is simple once you see the letter frequencies. E appears in 51.5% of answers, A in 41.1% and R in 39.8% - the letters Wordle strategy tells you to lead with. At the other end, J appears in just 0.8%, Z in 0.9% and Q in 1.3%. Those are your friends.

But there is a trap in playing it too safe. 80.9% of answers contain none of J, Z, Q, X, V or K, which means a rare-letter opening usually comes back completely gray - safe, and almost completely uninformative. You survive the early rows knowing nothing, and then the late rows, where every remaining legal word is dangerous, arrive with no map. Good players spend one mid-game guess buying information deliberately, while they still have undos in hand. That judgement call is the actual skill this game teaches, and it is why it stays interesting after the novelty wears off.

Frequently asked

What is the best opening word for Don't Wordle?

Measured against our 866-word answer list, FUZZY is the strongest common opener at a 39% risk score, with PUPPY at 41% and YUMMY at 42%. All three work for the same two reasons: they lean on rare letters (Z appears in under 1% of answers, P in 11.5%) and they repeat letters, which deliberately tests fewer distinct possibilities. Avoid ALERT, ARISE and SLATE - they score 177% to 191% and are built from the most common letters in English.

Is Don't Guess affiliated with Don't Wordle or Wordle?

No. Don't Guess is fully independent - different creators, different code, different word lists. We reference Don't Wordle on this page only to help players comparing the two games. WORDLE is a registered trademark of The New York Times Company; Don't Wordle is a product of dontwordle.com. Can I practise before the daily?

That's the idea. Unlimited mode is a consequence-free training ground: your daily streak only depends on the one daily round, and everything else is practice with full stats.
